end table redo

My friend moved and gave me a side table that was a dark cherry stain with contemporary silver knobs. There were a lot of water stains and cracks, so decided to give it a facelift to put beside my couch in the family room. Very inexpensive fix.

Family update-August

We are enjoyed our summer and now are gearing up for school. Ken has had fun going on some scout trips and hikes with Jared and Marcus. ( Zion’s and Kings Peak). He just got home from taking Adam and Andy to Disney land and the beach. He is still busy as cub master over 3 wards. His biggest news is passing his boards exam and we are very proud of him. I got to have a night out with my mission companions whom I served with 19 years ago. I still work with the activity day girls and enjoy that with Betsy. I had a fun time in Salt Lake for a mini retreat with my sisters. Jared is busy with band and a full time job. He works at Precision assembly with a swing shift soldering microchips. He enjoyed going to EFY Orem with Marcus last month. Marcus made it into symphonic band for the fall. He is excited to get his braces off this next week. He’s had a job this summer taking care of a dog every day. Betsy has done well at her Irish dance competitions and has moved to 2 a week classes She had fun at 5th grade camp for 4 days in Provo Canyon. She continues to play trombone and take piano lessons. Adam is now a bear in cub scouts. He looks forward to changing to a gifted magnet schoolfor 4th-6th grades. He got to skip a belt in Hapkido and will start a more advanced class this fall. He got to shake hands with several apostles at a concert and was even spoken to by the prophet who said, “You’re a fine looking young man. Go on a mission!” Andy loves sports and playing with neighborhood kids. He is looking forward to being baptized and becoming a cub scout this year.

Aspen Grove family camp

We had a great time as a family for a week at Aspen Grove. We were able to enjoy it with Ken's brother and family as well. Some highlights were, the lectures, fireside, food, ropes course, climbing wall, watercolor class, pottery, swimming, frontier night, family games, family dance, youth dance and youth night games just to name a few. It was nice to be without electronic devices and wean ourselves from technology a little. We will probably do a mini camp next summer.

sister's retreat at Gateway

We celebrated Stephanie and Heather's b-day at a condo in downtown Salt Lake. We shopped, ate at Thaiphoon and the Copper onion and enjoyed the chalk art festival.

My sister's b-day gifts

I used the china cup I got at DI and turned it into a pin-cushion for my quilter sister's b-day. I also made her this terrarrium out of an apothacary jar I got on sale at Tai Pan.

D.I. decorating digs

I am determined to decorate my house, one D.I. trip at a time. Here is my stash of junk for $20 that I am going to incorporate into my decorating. Some things are going to get a coat of paint and transform from junk to treasure. Here is the first application incorporating some of the roses from some of our 80+ rosebushes.
